Out-Patient Services
The psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists at The Institute for Neuropsychiatry provide many services on an out-patient basis at our offices, including:
- Depression and anxiety treatment
- Individual, family and marital counseling
- Women's mental health services
- Child and adolescent psychiatry
- Geriatric psychiatry
- Alcohol and substance abuse treatment
- Group therapy
- Psychiatric assessments
- Psychological assessments & testing
Mental Health Rehabilitation Services (MHR)
The Institute for Neuropsychiatry / Advanced Health Services also provides out-patient services for Medicaid recipients who meet MHR eligibility requirements. Our goals are to assist recipients in coping with symptoms of mental illness, help recipients enhance independence, and reduce or prevent psychiatric hospitalizations. In general, we want to assist our recipients in optimizing their potentials to live full and happy lives.
We serve children, adolescents, and adults. Components of our services include community support, individual and group therapy, parent/family intervention (counseling), psychosocial skills training, and a day program. We provide services at the agency, in the home, and in the community.
The MHR staff includes three medical directors (Dr. Dale Archer, Dr. Charles Murphy and Dr. Aneeta Afzal); four licensed mental health professionals; two masters level mental health professionals; three mental health specialists; and, an administrative assistant. Art Schafer, LPC is the program director. He has 18 years of experience in the mental health field working in both the private sector and with the state.
In-Patient Services
In conjunction with the Recovery Center of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, our physicians and therapists provide
crisis stabilization and short term treatment for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients who seek care for acute psychiatric symptoms. A highly qualified interdisciplinary team consisting of the patient; psychiatrist; licensed nurses; case managers; social workers; therapeutic recreation staff and mental health technicians, provides comprehensive treatment services. Program components include:
- Diagnostic and Medical Services
- 24 hour Behavioral Observation
- Medication Stabilization and Management
- Individual, Family, and Group Therapy
- Recreational Therapy
- Animal Assisted Activities (Pet Therapy)
- Patient and Family Education
- Discharge and Aftercare Planning
Geriatric Program
The Geriatric Unit at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital consists of 10 beds with specialized inpatient services focusing on the unique needs faced by adults as they age. The program provides goal oriented-intensive individualized care focusing on both psychiatric and medical needs. Our interdisciplinary team works hand in hand with families and caregivers to assure the highest quality of care from admission to discharge. The average length of stay is 7-10 days.
Adult Program
The Adult Unit at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital consists of 20 beds dedicated to young adults and adults with a broad spectrum of psychiatric problems such as mood disorders, psychotic disorders, disruptive behaviors, and substance detoxification. The program offers inpatient crisis stabilization, short-term treatment, and comprehensive discharge planning. The interdisciplinary team coordinates treatment and services to prepare the individual to successfully transition to a less restrictive level of care. The average length of stay is 5-7 days.
Child/Adolescent Program
The Child /Adolescent Unit at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital consists of 10 beds. The inpatient program is structured and designed to meet the specific need of each child and adolescent. The interdisciplinary team provides a comprehensive assessment and formulates an individualized plan of care.
Our program uses a number of approaches including individual and group therapy as well as medication management. Family involvement is critical for successful treatment and transition to a lesser level of care. The Child /Adolescent Program also maintains a working relationship with local school districts to ensure that each patient has an opportunity to experience academic success. The average length of stay is 5-7 days.
